1974

Expanded services into public schools and the court system

Opened offices in Newtown and Venice between 1975-1976


1981

Initiated first Treatment Alternatives to Street Crime (TASC) program as a cooperative partnership with the Department of Corrections            

Offered group counseling to criminal justice clients                                                      

Services now available in Bradenton and Arcadia

1983

Three full service offices in operation in Sarasota, Venice, and Bradenton, with limited services offered in Arcadia

Family Life Intervention Program (FLIP) implemented

1987

Opened Kelly Hall, a residential treatment facility for alcohol and drug-impaired adolescents

 1989

Awarded Mental Health Services contracts by HRS District 8, Alcohol, Drug Abuse and Mental Health (ADM) Program Office

Crisis Stabilization Unit was opened and expanded

Implemented services for dually diagnosed clients

Name changed to Coastal Recovery Centers, Inc.

1990

Adult Outpatient Department expanded services to meet the communities' needs for case management, day treatment, therapy, forensic, and psychiatric services

1991

Received funding approval from HRS District 8 ADM Program Office for a ten-bed group home for persons with severe mental illness. Hired a part-time Housing Resource Specialist to develop housing opportunities for this population

Broke ground for construction of new free-standing Crisis Stabilization Unit designed to serve twenty adults and fifteen children who are in acute psychiatric distress and require brief, intensive stabilization services

Constructed a 30-bed facility for Kelly Hall in 1991

1992 

The Kreisman Center Crisis Stabilization Unit opened

Opened ten-bed group home for persons with severe mental illness.  Added four different supported housing locations throughout Sarasota County to provide safe, affordable living situations for persons with mental illness who are capable of living independently with some supportive services

1993 

Expanded community outpatient programs in DeSoto, Sarasota, Manatee, and Charlotte counties

Implemented Children's Crisis Stabilization Services for children and youth in severe psychiatric distress

Added vocational services component to develop vocational opportunities for consumers

1994

Accredited by Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations

Implemented Family Preservation Project

Implemented In-Jail Assessment Services

 1995

Awarded contract to provide services for the Department of Juvenile Justice

1996

Juvenile Assessment Center begins operations.  Offers a central intake and processing point for arrested juveniles in Sarasota County

1997

Continued accreditation from Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations achieved

2000 

Continued accreditation from Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations achieved

Sarasota Assertive Community Treatment Team opens

2001 

Continued growth and development led Coastal to a new name, Coastal Behavioral Healthcare, Inc.  The new name better reflects the agency’s mission and scope of service

Lee County Assertive Community Treatment Team and CAIC opens

Psychology pre-doctoral internship program begins

2002 

Charlotte County Assertive Community Treatment Teams opens

Family Emergency Treatment Center in Sarasota opens

Hospitality House opens

Compass Center, offering residential substance abuse treatment for adolescent males, opens

Mental Health Court begins in Sarasota and Lee Counties

Adult Residential Services expands - Heritage Group Home opens

2003

Project Take Charge start-up

Moved North County Outpatient Services to Bahia Vista
