Juvenile Assessment
Center (JAC)
The Sarasota JAC provides a single
point of entry and a consistent, coordinated response to juveniles
who commit crimes in Sarasota County. The JAC offers a secure place
for law enforcement to bring youthful offenders who may have otherwise
been released directly to their parents without the benefit of being
taken into secure custody and introduced to meaningful intervention
for their problems within hours of their arrest.
The JAC is the central intake and booking
point for Sarasota County youth who have been arrested and taken into
physical custody on charges
ranging from petty offenses to serious felonies.
Immediately after the juvenile’s arrest, JAC
assessors complete a psychosocial assessment and urinalysis test .
The JAC also provides a central point to gather information about
juvenile
crime in the community.
The JAC operates 24 hours per day, seven days a week.
