Community-Based Care

CBH is a partner with the YMCA and local agencies in the Safe Children Coalition,
a community collaboration that offers care for children in the dependency
system. CBH assists DeSoto County’s abused and neglected children
and their families in reaching permanency in a safe and stable environment.
Services include individual, family and group counseling, case management
services, and psychiatric services.
Family support services are also provided for families at risk for child
abuse and neglect who are expecting or raising an infant. Services are conveniently
provided in the home environment.
When children have been removed from their home and placed in community-based
care due to abuse or neglect, supervised visitation is offered to teach positive
parenting behavior. This program introduces structured education, training,
and coping skills with frequent visitation intended to reunite families.
The Independent Living Specialist at Coastal Behavioral Healthcare assist
youth in the dependency system who are reaching age 18 in the transition
from foster care to independence.
Coastal Behavioral Healthcare also assists the child welfare system through
its Diversion Program, designed to prevent further abuse and/or neglect of
children and divert families from the child welfare system by delivering
comprehensive intervention services. This program is available in Sarasota
